Finding lightweight and affordable software for recording your screen can be a tedious job, there is a lot of good software out there but they are either expensive or not good enough, we all hate watermarks and short videos, some of us like to record his screen only and the others like to record both their face and screen at the same time. 

The options are endless, so today I’m going to compare two lightweight tools which are not expensive and can get the job done easily, and have a low learning curve.

I’ve known and used Screencast-O-Matic for a long time, not on a daily basis but I know it more than I know Screencastify, it’s new to me. 

I’ve used it to record short review videos for my channel on YouTube and it was awesome.

Loom is also a Google Chrome extension, there’s no need to download any software on your computer and that means it works on all operating systems, according to their website, More than 4 million people across 90,000 companies choose Loom including Slack, Atlassian, and LinkedIn.

  • You can try the pro plan which lets you add a call to action and custom thumbnails
  • Loom isn’t available on Android but they’re planning on releasing one this year 2020. 
  • You can only record in 720p resolution if you’re on the basic plan, the Pro plan lets you record in HD.
