Trying to make something like Canva can be challenging, especially when they offer everything you need at a low price.
They even support Arabic fonts which might not be available in other competitors.
Today, I’m going to review what seems a cheaper alternative to Canva which I think is very similar to it but couldn’t reach their level and you’re going to see why next…
This site is called DesignCap which is a part of a bigger organization that contains other similar sites in the graphic design area.
Here’s what I found when I gave it a quick try.
Fair warning: I’m reviewing the plus plan of this software which is a paid plan.
Features:
- Online-Based Platform and Easy to Use
- Massive Template Library like Coronavirus, Chart, Infographic, etc.
- Large Collection of Custom Elements and Resources including built-in fonts, shapes, and backgrounds, as well as a large library of stock photos and icons.
- Output Format: JPG, PNG, PDF.
- Fronts customization.
Pros
I’m not going to talk a lot about the obvious features because I found all of them on Canva, if you’re a familiar user of Canva then you know what I mean, there are text and object alignment, color, filters, elements, stock photos… and a lot more.
Lower price compared to Canva:
As I mentioned above it’s cheaper if you compare it to a site like Canva, I think this is where they want to compete, by lowering their price, but it came at a cost, which I’ll mention in the Cons section below.
Cons
Here are some of the things that I didn’t like about DesignCap.
Not enough stock photos
I found out about this when I tried to search for specific terms like Desktop PC, that means I should get or see photos of a monitor along with a PC case or tower (whatever you call it), unfortunately, I didn’t see enough satisfying options that I can choose from, but if you do the same process at Canva you’re going to see a lot of options but you’ll have to pay of course.
No support for Arabic fonts
I know what you’re thinking, you’re not an Arabic person, I’m 😅, I use Canva all the time to create YouTube thumbnails for my videos which are in Arabic, I found few good options in Canva but none in DesignCap, these small details show you how much a software cares about user experience or satisfaction.
But there’s a workaround for this problem by simply uploading your own font. (check the image below)
Can’t search for fonts
In Canva I can search for fonts, in DesignCap I can’t, this is also a part of user experience which they didn’t pay a big attention to, still, small details matter.
DesignCap vs Canva
I guess I’m not going to add much information here in this section because I’ve already done it above.
You can tell which one is better easily from the previous comparison.
Final Verdict
My opinion or thought about this software is obvious, to me Shawky, I can’t rely on this software because of what I mentioned above, although I’m using the free version of Canva which I’m totally satisfied with.
If you’re OK with the Cons I mentioned above then I highly recommend getting DesignCap because it’s a lot cheaper, you can find good photos somewhere else like Unsplash or Pixabay… etc.
